A weekend retreat “off the grid” in NH’s White Mountain wilderness.

This retreat will include a weekend of challenging yourself physically and stepping outside your comfort zone. This retreat will also leave you feeling grounded, connected with nature, yourself and others, to return home with a full cup and a happy heart. If this sounds like just what the doctor ordered, then this retreat is for you!

We will meet at the trailhead at 8AM Saturday morning for a relatively easy 2.8 mile guided hike to the Zealand Falls AMC Hut. The Zealand Falls Hut sits at an elevation of 2,700′ and is known as a great first-time backcountry overnight location. Once we arrive, we will check in, unpack our belongings and get our bearings on our surroundings and home-base for the weekend (and probably switch from our boots to flip flops:)). We will find some space to spread out and enjoy a restorative yoga s t r e t c h and take a break for lunch. You are welcome to pack your own lunch or bring cash to order whatever the AMC is cooking up on this day (they serve a selection of fresh baked bread/muffins, soups and snacks.) After lunch, we will put our hiking boots back on and make the 1 mile trek to Zeacliff. From the Zeacliff lookout we will take in views of the Pemigewasset Wilderness to the south and Willey Range to the east. Bring your camera because the views from Zeacliff are spectacular!  After spending some time taking it all in on Zeacliff, you may choose to head back to the hut for an afternoon of R&R or continue for 1.6 miles to the summit of Mt Zealand. There is no viewpoint from the Zealand summit, but if summiting it is on your list, this would be a good time to check it off that list:)

Once back at the hut, you are free to take some time for yourself relaxing, reading, or napping. We will all meet again for a family style dinner at 6 PM. Dinner is served by the AMC staff, is always hearty and delicious and they will accommodate any dietary restrictions with advance notice. After dinner, enjoy an optional educational nature lecture by an AMC staff member, stargazing or board game playing – you choose how to spend your evening. Lights out at 9:30 PM!

On Sunday, enjoy waking up to a yummy hot breakfast followed by a 1-hour yoga class. After breakfast and yoga, we will head down to Zealand Falls, a 25 foot plunge waterfall that then cascades down. During the morning hours on a sunny day, light hits the front of the rock faces of Zealand Falls, illuminating the top of the waterfall. The lower part of the falls is tucked a few feet inside a narrow flume. The sound of the water drowns out any other sounds and is quite meditative! A smaller four-foot waterfall is below the main attraction and at the base of this there is a circular pool great for swimming or wading. Overall, this is a great area to swim and take some time exploring.

Once back at the hut, you are welcome to have lunch before we begin our descend. Around noon time we will head back as a group to the trailhead and depart for home.

NOTE: Everyone attending is responsible for carrying their own backpack. We will go over all gear in the parking lot prior to ascending and take with us only the essentials – all other items will be left behind.  In case of rain, please bring a large trash bag or pack rain cover to keep personal items dry. A full suggested packing list will be emailed to you 2 weeks prior to your retreat.

SUPYO is an incredible organization that goes out of their way to ensure every single participant has an amazing time! The Back to Earth retreat at Zealand Hut was epic!! Jana really cares about all her people❤️ and Kim, our guide, made sure we each had an experience of a lifetime. Each experience I have with SUPYO i meet new people who I instantly connect with. The community & friendships are life changing. Thanks SUPYO for being awesome!

  • Incredible retreat leaders, amazing location, and just an all around awesome (Back to Earth) weekend!

  • Being in the mountains, yoga and outdoor activities are three of my favorite things! Add in a friendly and enthusiastic group of individuals and you have the makings for the perfect weekend retreat!

  • We couldn’t have asked for better weather! Spectacular! All in all, practically perfect in every way! Jana was accommodating, helpful and is a wonderful yoga instructor!

  • I would love to go on a another retreat with SUP YO! It was an amazing experience that pushed me out of my comfort zone!

  • Lonesome Lake had amazing views with plenty to do for all levels whether it was hiking, paddleboarding or relaxing! Perfect for setting your own goals and challenges based on individual needs or intentions.

  • The weekend getaway was very well planned out, especially with a great plan B in place for when the weather didn’t cooperate! The location was central to all activities and the yoga classes were a great way to start and end the day!

  • It is difficult to pick just one thing as the “most” enjoyable! The location, the group of individuals participating in the retreat, the food, the instruction — all of these aspects culminated in a spectacular weekend!

  • Back to Earth was one of the best experiences I’ve had. I highly recommend this for anyone looking to get away from the craziness of everyday life. And although having a friend to partner with might be nice, doing it alone allowed me to set my pace and push past my comfort zone and focus on what I need (for a change). Being part of a group of people I’ve never met added to the experience. The setting was amazing and found myself just taking in everything that was around me when I needed to take a moment. The hike the second day is a must for anyone looking to take the trip to the next level and challenge yourself. For those that just want a quiet relaxing time and not join the hike, there is plenty of that too.

  • The Instructor was fabulous!!! The people in my group were fabulous!! The Food was fabulous!! The place (hut) was fabulous!!! I would do this again in a heartbeat!

The Zealand Falls AMC Hut is in the backcountry and is “off the grid”

Zealand Falls Hut, sitting at an elevation of 2,700 feet, is an easy 2.8 miles from the trailhead and a great first-time backcountry overnight spot.  Zealand Falls passes within fifty feet of the hut, with swimming holes upstream, and ponds below the falls. Visitors can hike just over a mile to the Zeacliff lookout and take in views of the Pemigewasset Wilderness to the south and Willey Range to the east.

Zealand Falls Hut offers co-ed bunk rooms and separate washrooms, with cold water sinks (seasonal) and composting toilets. AMC Huts are in backcountry locations and are “off the grid,” meaning they are only accessible by hiking. Bunkhouses are not heated, have no lighting, and no electrical outlets. Rooms stay cold, so bring an appropriately rated sleeping bag and a headlamp or flashlight for your overnight visit.

The legendary AMC hut “croo” or caretakers are available to assist you with trip planning, trail information, and weather reports while our Hut Naturalist offers daily programs about the local flora and fauna, geology, and hut history before and after dinner in full-service season.

Cold running water is available in the washrooms. Blankets and pillows will no longer be provided at the huts but you may bring your own sheet or sleeping bag if you wish. Dinner and breakfast are included with your stay. Breakfast is served family-style at 7 a.m. sharp and includes eggs with pancakes or a baked good, plus hot cereal, fruit, and breakfast meat, such as bacon or sausage, with coffee, cocoa, or tea. Dinner is served family-style at 6 p.m. sharp and includes fresh bread, soup, salad, a hearty entrée, and dessert. Please notify SUP YO at time of registration if you have food allergies or other dietary restrictions. Bring your own lunch; otherwise soup and baked goods are available for purchase from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Please carry in/carry out all personal trash and recyclables, in accordance with Leave No Trace protocol.

Please also note:

  • Electrical outlets are not available. Please plan to bring a solar charger or other battery backup for your phone.
  • Bring a headlamp for the bunk rooms at night.
  • Please be respectful of other guests and observe quiet hours from 9:30 PM to 6:30 AM.
  • Alcoholic beverages are allowed in moderation and should be consumed in a responsible manner. Please carry in/carry out all containers.
  • Smoking or open flame are not allowed in or near any structure.
