SUP YO was founded by Jana Olenio, yoga instructor, travel agent and NH native, and was created from pure passion for nature and outdoor adventure. SUP YO was originally formed in 2011 as a paddleboard yoga company that over time evolved into many other outdoor adventure offerings from day hikes to weeklong worldwide adventure trips.

Learn to teach Yoga on a Stand Up Paddleboard

Our 25-hour certification course covers the following:

  • Basic Equipment: Use and handling of Paddleboard, Paddle & Anchor, Paddle Types, Basic Board Layout, Transporting boards
  • Basics of SUP: Land & Water: Entering/Exiting, Maneuvering, Proper Paddle Technique, Equipment Selection, Navigate Confidently and Correctly, etc.
  • Paddle Skills continued
  • Instruction for the SUP Beginner:
  • Water Safety: US Coast Guard Laws, Water Safety, Rescue
  • General Safety
  • Logistics: Weather, Surrounding Environment, Varying Levels of Paddlers and Yoga Students, etc.
  • On Land & On Water Lessons
  • SUP Yoga: Anchoring, Classroom orientation, Building your foundation, Sequencing from beginner to advanced.
  • SUP Yoga Gear: How to choose and use the correct boards for yoga. What gear is needed and legally required, what gear an instructor should always carry and how to use it.
  • How to create a SUP Yoga Business of your own

Pre-Requisites:

  • Registered Yoga Teacher – 200 hour or above
  • Must understand/be able to properly use Stand Up Paddle gear.
  • Must be comfortable on the water with strong paddling and teaching skills.
  • Must be able to swim
  • Must be First Aid & CPR Certified

What You Will Earn:

  • SUP YO Adventures Paddleboard Yoga Certificate – 25 hours
  • Credits can be applied towards your Yoga Alliance Continuing Education (YA CE)
  • Tuition: $795 includes: 25-Hour course, Manual, Rental Equipment
  • Course to be held Thursday-Sunday, 6.5 hours per day.

    The 2021 SupYo Adventures YTT program was outstanding! We were so lucky to learn from Jana whose endless knowledge and thoughtful approach to outdoor adventures cannot be matched. After a year of ups and downs, isolation, and hardship, this training also afforded a sense of normalcy we all were craving. I and my fellow trainees loved being together, learning in our outdoor classroom, and building our skill set so we can offer the same freeing and gorgeous experience for our students. Following training I feel confident to not only lead a paddleboard class, but also empowered to so!

    It was an amazing experience! The training was comprehensive and Jana is an excellent trainer. I couldn’t have asked for a better group of people to train with either. I would definitely recommend the training to my fellow yogis and after experiencing the quality of training, I am looking forward to trying other adventures with SUPYO.

    The chemistry of our group was incredible. I believe that is because Jana is so hands-on to include each participant + is so skilled at cultivating community. Sharing the company of like-minded women in a group setting—particularly after the life-altering pandemic we’ve all been experiencing—was very powerful. The content likewise was excellent. We covered a wide swath of information, from how to read nautical maps + tie anchor knots to proper paddle technique, safety rescues + creative sequencing. I feel prepared to teach not only paddleboard yoga, but also paddle class.

    Such a fun teacher training. Jana was a fabulous instructor. She was knowledgable of her craft and was able to share her knowledge in a fun engaging way. Prior to teacher training, I had no idea how much was actually involved in teaching a SUP Yoga class. I feel like I not only learned a lot about SUP Yoga but I also learned a lot about myself as an instructor and as a person. As far as classrooms go… being on the ocean in the warm sun- In the middle of February is pretty damn great if you ask me! I would highly recommend this training!

    Thank you to Jana for putting this training together! It was such a wonderful learning experience. I feel that the 3 days was the perfect amount of time. It really helped that first day we were introduced to paddling techniques, which to my surprise, I had been paddling incorrectly the last two years. This really helped me with speed and agility. After the second day, using round robin teaching really made me forget my fears if this was something I could do or not. By the third day I was so excited to get out and teach in class with the techniques we learned. It was also a joy to meet new friends and have time to get to know one another on this trip. I am more now than ever to get out on the water this summer and teach for SUP YO!

    I participated in SUP YO teacher training in 2018. Jana was a fabulous teacher and really helped up grow our paddling technique and learn paddle board safety, how to adapt poses on a board, equipment and the business side if SUP Yoga. This course left me confident to teach a class on the water and adapt to any unexpected “storms” that could arise. I would recommend this training to anyone wanting to learn more about teaching SUP Yoga!

Frequently asked questions

Who can register for SUP Yoga TT?
  • Students must have a 200-hour teacher training certification or be currently enrolled in a program to qualify.
  • Students must be CPR & First Aid certified.
  • Students must have strong paddling skills and be comfortable on the water.
What should I bring?
  • A Complete Packing list will be provided at time of registration.
DO I need my own equipment?

All equipment is included in the price of the program.

Damaged or Lost Equipment Clause

In the event of damaged or lost equipment, including anchors, paddles, SUP’s and PFD’s, it is 100% the responsibility of the renter to repair or replace what has been lost or damaged.

Payments & Cancellation Policy
  • The per person cost includes manual, board rental, paddle, anchor, PFD (personal floatation device) and instruction by a certified SUP Yoga instructor.
  • Since classes sell out in advance, we have a strict cancellation policy. Please read carefully below:
  • No refunds are available for cancellations and/or no shows. If you must cancel, please do so within 7 days prior to the event by emailing supyoboston@gmail.com. No refunds will be processed outside of 7 days.
  • If the program is cancelled by SUP YO for any reason, you may receive a refund.
